Specifically to the machine tool industry, I can talk about my personal experience from the following points: first of all, in the design link, if we can get rid of the traditional design mode, we can often find new ways to save manufacturing costs and achieve unexpected results. For example, it takes 5 hours to make a part, and another way to make it may take only 3-4 hours, depending on whether the engineer has a special intention in manufacturing. If he takes the pains to make a machine tool, the electricity, water, manpower and pollution to the environment that we consume may be minimized; conversely, we can also find it in the traditional mode. Find new breakthroughs, such as through the modification of CNC machine tool controller or eliminating some processing restrictions, to achieve the goal of high efficiency and energy saving without increasing the processing speed (spindle rotation). Please note what I said, in addition to consciously reducing environmental pollution during manufacturing, if we can devote ourselves to the study of good processes, efficient processing itself is a kind of energy-saving; similarly, if we can have better planning of the whole processing process, so as to improve the yield, reduce errors and reduce waste, we can save materials and do not waste energy. To achieve the goal of environmental protection.
Reporter: Does this confirm your so-called company balance theory again?
Mou Dehua: I think we should analyze this problem from a macro perspective. The key point is that the top, middle and grass-roots level of a company make a lot of decisions on operation, operation, manufacturing, design, sales or service every day. The company’s decision-making is actually an assembly of these decisions. And all decisions eventually become a reflection of corporate culture. These decisions can either make the company profitable, or optimize its products, or enhance its services, or ensure high-end machine processing, etc. But most particularly, Haas’s decisions regard green, energy-saving and environmental protection as an important part of the company’s overall balance, which we as a whole. Earth people, or a company on the planet, always strive to achieve an overall balance with the environment in the process of growth and growth.
Mou Dehua: Whether or not enterprises realize that they should maintain the overall balance with the environment, whether the products they produce are environmentally friendly or energy-saving is actually part of corporate social responsibility. Many enterprises make relevant decisions either because of the constraints of external laws and regulations or considering the interests of some enterprises, so there will be a certain degree of deficiencies. To measure whether a company is a good company, it is better to see whether it is a company that is responsible to the society, among which is: Attaching importance to environmental protection is a good observation point.
Mou Dehua: I have worked in Haas for a long time. Looking back on the past, from the establishment of Haas to the present, many places can prove that Haas has been consciously acting in the field of environmental protection. In our view, this is what we should do, so there is no publicity for it. Just because we are citizens of the earth, the ecology of the earth is closely related to us. Haas is such a company that is responsible to the society.
Take two simple examples: the coatings used on Haas machines were water-borne coatings long ago. It is well known that water-borne coatings are the least polluting to the environment in the process of production, in the process of equipment use and in the later period of waste recycling. Haas did so no later than 2000, knowing that there were no laws and regulations to strictly restrict it in the machine manufacturing industry at that time.
Reporter: The two examples you cited are very representative, but I want to know that the enterprise is pursuing profit as the biggest goal, and Haas’s two small initiatives will obviously increase the cost of production of Haas machines, then why Haas has to make such a decision?
Mou Dehua: I think the change of concept can change the whole environment. Environmental protection should be reflected in every industrial link. If we regard environmental protection as a part of corporate culture or social responsibility, I believe it can bring great changes to the whole world. It is the most important that we take action after thinking, in which direction we go in the process of thinking.
Reporter: It is said that Has also introduced some new models this year. Can you give an example to illustrate the innovative improvements of Has machine tools from the perspective of energy saving?
Mou Dehua: The whole manufacturing industry’s emphasis on environmental protection is not very trendy. Many enterprises have similar measures. For example, many automobile manufacturers have also chosen water-based paint, which is a very obvious contribution to the protection of water resources.
Reporter: So in your opinion, is Haas such a responsible company for society?
Reporter: So for enterprises seeking development, how to measure whether they are in the overall balance?
I don’t know when the words “green”, “energy-saving” and “environmental protection” have flooded all sectors of the manufacturing industry. As a major energy consumer, the manufacturing industry is duty-bound to this. Before that, the reporter interviewed Mr. Mou Dehua, president of Haas Automation CNC Machinery Co., Ltd. in Asia and general manager of Haas Automation CNC Machinery (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., a well-known international machine tool manufacturer, on the theme of “The role of manufacturing enterprises in green and energy saving”.
Reporter: The two cases you mentioned just now, including paints and steel, are elaborated from the perspective of raw materials. In your opinion, for manufacturing enterprises, what aspects can reflect their contribution to green, energy saving and environmental protection?
Mou Dehua: This is a reflection of Haas culture. Although such measures will increase product costs, if Haas can absorb these increased costs, then we will think that the increase in manufacturing costs is due to the contribution to social and environmental protection, then there is no doubt that Haas is willing to make such a decision. This is only a small part of the overall culture of Haas. We have not been promoting how environmentally friendly and green Haas is. But in fact, the seeds of environmental protection are deeply planted in the hearts of every Haas. When we make every decision, we will have a comprehensive consideration, including whether it will cause harm to the environment. Finally, a final conclusion will be reached. It’s my great honor to see what I’ve been working in Haas for so many years. I think it’s all very good.
Reporter: As a world-renowned supplier of machine tools and equipment, how do you think the energy-saving and environmental protection of manufacturing industry should be reflected?
Mou Dehua: Every company shows a good part in the market propaganda. Nobody will say that “I” machine is not environmentally friendly. In fact, the manufacturing industry itself is not environmentally friendly. But how to balance the whole company with the concept of environmental protection in every link? This is not only the general manager or department manager of the company. The most important thing to consider is to have the idea of environmental protection in everyone’s mind.
Mou Dehua: Actually, there are many examples of this. At least, Haas’s engineers have not been idle. We not only develop new models, but also improve the original models. This year, for example, our machines are equipped with a new system called oil-saving lubrication. As we all know, most machine tools use lubricating oil in the spindle, screw and linear guide. The lubricating oil control system will supply oil to these system areas at regular intervals. The problem is that the system will supply oil at regular intervals regardless of the actual distance of the guide rail. This will inevitably result in a lot of waste of lubricating oil. I have simply estimated that if injected every half hour. Oil 3cc, 12 hours a day, 300 days a year, and 18 litres of lubricant a year. Haas’s new design of “oil-saving lubrication system” breaks through the conventional, not in accordance with the time interval, but in accordance with the actual operating distance of the guide rail, thus greatly saving oil consumption. In addition, in the past, all lubricants were liquid lubricants. In Haas’s system, solid lubricants were used instead, which further reduced the consumption of lubricants. In addition to reducing the cost of customers, it is also a manifestation of energy saving and environmental protection.
For example, earlier, many enterprises in the selection of steel, if it is mild steel, will add a certain proportion of lead in it, so that the steel’s machinability will be improved a lot, surface finish is better. However, the soft steel containing lead is not used in Haas’s factory. On the one hand, the steel containing lead is harmful to the operators in the process of processing. On the other hand, the steel containing lead also pollutes the environment in the process of waste recycling.
Reporter: Thank you very much for Mr. Mou’s theory of company balance and environmental protection, and introduce the relevant cases for our reference. At the end of the interview, we want to know what is the most urgent and primary task for manufacturing enterprises to achieve energy conservation, environmental protection and green processing.
The change of concept can change the whole environment. Environmental protection should be reflected in every industrial link. If we regard environmental protection as a part of corporate culture or social responsibility, I believe it can bring great changes to the whole world.
