At present, a series of policies and measures are accelerating the development of Intelligent Manufacturing in China. Manufacturing enterprises in various industries are actively exploring the application of intelligent manufacturing and the construction of intelligent factories. As an important measure to promote the development of Intelligent Manufacturing in China, since the first batch of 46 national pilot demonstration projects of intelligent manufacturing were announced and implemented in 2015, the total number of selected pilot demonstration projects of intelligent manufacturing increased by 99 in 2018. More and more manufacturing enterprises have started the journey of building intelligent factories. However, while a large number of model intelligent factories are emerging, many manufacturing enterprises still have many misunderstandings about intelligent manufacturing. To promote the construction of intelligent factories, we need to call for “rationality”.
Intelligent manufacturing and intelligent factory national environmental protection cover many fields, and the system is extremely complex. A real intelligent factory should be lean, flexible, green, energy-saving and data-driven, which can adapt to multi-varieties and small batch production mode. Intelligent factory is not an unmanned factory, but a factory with fewer people and man-machine cooperation.
Many manufacturing enterprises pay more attention to automation and digitalization, single machine automation and system flexibility, partial transformation and overall optimization, unit system application, overall planning and system integration, reconstruction, operation and maintenance, digitalized design, digitalized simulation and national environmental protection optimization. Misconceptions such as emphasizing information system application, neglecting data value embodiment and management improvement, emphasizing display and neglecting practicability, etc. Many enterprises blindly pursue unmanned factories, black light factories, machine replacement, and spare no effort to build luxury version of intelligent factories. All kinds of intelligent equipment and information systems should be available. They should purchase well-known brand BI, ERP, PLM, MES, SRM, ESB, production and logistics simulation system, automatic three-dimensional storehouse, AGV, automated production line and production. The command center and so on, set up specialized intelligent manufacturing exhibition hall, workshop site access, demonstration production line and so on, eventually, leading to the promotion of intelligent manufacturing results can not meet expectations, intelligent factory just looks very beautiful.
In my opinion, to promote the construction of intelligent factory, we need to treat it rationally and close to the market demand. We should not blindly pursue high-level automation equipment and depart from the changes of market demand. Firstly, enterprises must make it clear that intelligent manufacturing is not an end, but a means. The core purpose of promoting intelligent manufacturing and building intelligent factories is to help enterprises improve their core competitiveness and profitability by reducing costs and efficiency, saving energy and reducing consumption, improving product quality, enhancing product added value, shortening product listing cycle, meeting customers’personalized needs, and seeking benefits from services. Secondly, enterprises must have a correct understanding and understanding of intelligent manufacturing. Promoting intelligent manufacturing is a long-term process. Do not expect to “make the best of it”. Manufacturing enterprises need to establish the determination to “fight a protracted war”. Intelligent manufacturing promotion is a very complex system engineering, involving many fields of technology, and technology itself is constantly innovating and developing. Therefore, it is not only necessary to plan systematically, but also to plan rolling according to the actual operating conditions of enterprises in the process of planning and landing. Manufacturing enterprises must be pragmatic and realistic, considering the advanced nature of the system. Manufacturing enterprises should not only build their own professional team, but also introduce professional consulting service institutions and digital and automation solution providers as strategic partners.
